Belkin has been dangling its FlyWire wireless HD box for, what, ever now? Thankfully, it seems that all the kinks have been worked out, and the October ship date should actually stick. A few tidbits we learned while hanging out at the outfit’s CEDIA booth: first, we confirmed that the technology within the device is AMIMON’s, so we’re guessing it’s WHDI. Secondly, we heard that the retail price of the top-end AV69003 may scoot up to $1,499 when it’s finally released. We know, that’s a lot of coin to make your components cord-free, but the demonstration showing off Blu-ray streaming through thin air was nothing short of extraordinary. No hiccups, no jaggies, no hints whatsoever that there wasn’t a direct HDMI connection. Check the box (and the receiver) out in the flesh below.

For the most part, Runco stays pretty quiet in the consumer realm… until CEDIA rolls around. Once again, the high-end AV company is firing on all cylinders in Denver, announcing seven new 1080p LCD / plasma displays including its largest LCD to date, the 70-inch Crystal Series CX-70DHD (pictured). Along with the new panels, the outfit is unveiling its exclusive OPAL (Optical Path Alignment) technology on select models which “delivers extreme glare reduction and enhanced contrast for high ambient light environments.” The aforesaid 70-incher (shipping mid-October for $34,995) actually comes bundled with an external DHD video controller / processor, which incorporates Runco’s Vivix II tech to “enhance all digital and NTSC content to near high-definition quality.” We’ll admit, that sounds an awful lot like something Toshiba’s got going on just a few booths over, but make of it what you’ll. For details on the other half dozen sets, hop on past the break.

Who says universal remotes are too complicated to bother with? Judging by the legions of people loitering outside of Universal Remote’s booth at CEDIA, quite a few home cinema freaks are considering one of the company’s newest controllers. The MX-450, MX-880 and MX-6000 were all on display, though we definitely saw the former two getting all sorts of jealous of the latter. We guess that’s what happens when Earthlings are clearly more interested with expansive touchscreens, huh? Check out the whole fam just down there.

Add two stations to Project Infinity, Comcast has — after several years of battling — signed up Mark Cuban’s HDNet and HDNet Movies, plus a free video on-demand package. Specifics on when the channels should go live in your area weren’t noted, only that the cable company plans to increase its carriage of the two networks over the next year. Hopefully Comcast subscribers will get a (non-bandwidth starved) peek at Dan Rather, HDNet Fights, early movie premieres and more before tru2way and switched digital video roll out, but we can’t be sure.

Earlier this year, Niveus Media unveiled its 2TB and 4TB Storage Servers. Today, those are looking mighty anemic. Here at CEDIA, the outfit has just taken the wraps off of its Niveus Storage Server - Cargo Edition, which gets powered by Windows Home Server and features up to 16TB of space. Designed to be the “ultimate add-on” for Niveus Motion picture Library, this bugger should hold even the most robust HD movie collection — at least for a while. The unit itself is housed in a 3U, rack-mountable chassis and provides scalability for users to expand storage from 4TB right on up to 16TB. Pricing remains a mystery right now, though it will be available in Q4. Full release is after the break (but you already knew that, didn’t you?).

Well, took ‘em long enough! Just about a year after JVC initially demonstrated the 4k x 2k DLA-SH4K projector, the firm has finally got up the courage to start shipments. The beastly device is based on the company’s proprietary 1.27-inch 10 megapixel D-ILA technology and provides a brain-melting native 4,096 x 2,400 resolution. Packed within is a 825-Xenon lamp that generates light output of 3,500 ANSI lumens (and likely murders your energy bill). ‘Round back, you’ll find four DVI-D (dual-link) terminals, an RS-232C port, USB connections and an Ethernet jack for making adjustments via a web browser. We are told it’s available immediately, though we aren’t told the price; chances are we couldn’t fit that many zeros into this space, anyway. Full release is waiting beyond the break.

Japan has only a few weeks to prepare for the latest Sony 6X Blu-ray recorders, ready to hit the streets in a wide array of sizes and features. All pack BD-Live support as well as the company’s latest “CREAS” upscaling technology — Resolution+ vs. CREAS, fight! — promising 14-bit “HD Reality enhancement” and “Super Bit Mapping for video” with only high end X series models seen fit to include DRC-MFv3 image processing already seen in the latest BRAVIA LCDs, plus the capability to transcode and transfer video to PSP / phone / walkman. From the high end BDZ-X100 (1 TB,

In a parting note from IFA, Daewoo unveiled this odd folding screen, featuring four integrated LCDs. Fully integrated into each of the wood panels, apparently the displays can show video from up to four sources, even though there was otherwise little information from the booth staff about the DID-FS. Of course, where some might ask why would they build such a contraption, we see the perfect tool for a The Golden Child reenactment waiting to happen.

We hate to burst your bubble, but the rather beautiful looking device you see above won’t do you much good without one of ReQuest’s expensive servers. Designed to interact within a ReQuest ecosystem, the Intelligent Media Client gives users the capability to stream stored media (pictures, videos, audio, archived DVDs, etc.) across their network and onto a primary HDTV. The unit provides upscaled 1080p content and can even rip / store DVDs locally for searching across the LAN. ‘Course, you could probably get all of this functionality in October for much, much less than $2,495, but we suppose elegance has a premium, after all.
