By and huge, there’s nothing too extraordinary about LG’s latest LCD HDTV. It’s 22-inches, can double as a Computer monitor, boasts a deceiving 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and consumes some 40 percent less power than the average Earth-hating 22-inch LCD. There’s also a pair of HDMI sockets, a DVI port and a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, not to mention an automatic brightness sensor that responds to ambient light. There’s no word yet on how costly the 20 millimeter-thick set will be nor when it’ll ship stateside, but hopefully it — along with its 24-inch Full HD sibling — will make the trip in short order.

It’s really hard to state how much of a value this DIY HD projector is, given we’re missing some crucial specs like resolution (gotta be at least 720p, right?), contrast ratio, and luminosity. Still, at €500 (about $708 US) for the whole kit, it’s not a bad deal if you planned on spending your weekend doing projects anyway. All the pieces come in four separate bundles — HD optic, light, housing, and electronics — and if you need some handholding (it’s okay, so do we), there’s a German-language instruction manual that’s thankfully full of photos and diagrams, and even more pleasing, we’ve got a video / picture slideshow of the process done to a playful techno ditty. Check it out after the break.

Nothing spectacular recently in FiOS TV expansion news, but we’re sure East Syracuse, North Syracuse and Cicero New York residents are happy to be included in the communities that have reached franchise agreements to allow for upcoming service rollouts. Of course, upgraded internet speeds and related free netbook / camcorder / Entourage promotions are nothing to shake a stick at, so for those who survived the DTV transition intact, there is something new to look forward to beyond a few new local channels in Long Island and New Jersey.

This one’s been making the rounds in Europe for some time now, and finally passed through the FCC late last year, but it looks like Sonoro’s Eklipse iPod dock / CD player / clock radio has only just recently gotten fully official in the US, and given a price. Unfortunately, while it has dropped a bit compared to the Euro conversion, it is still a fairly hefty $550, which will buy you 7.5W of power output, a nice little OLED display, a compact remote, and an auxiliary jack in case the iPod dock and slot-load CD player aren’t enough options for you. There’s still no official word on a release date, however, but it looks like at least one retailer is now taking pre-orders for it.

Toshiba already showed us what its freshest line of HDTVs looks like, and now its Mitsubishi’s turn. The outfit was on hand in NYC to showcase a few of its now-shipping sets, including the 3D-ready Home Theater line and its speaker-infused Unisen crew. We won’t bore you with the specs (which can be found here and here, respectively), but we will confess that the 82-inch WD-82737 has us squirming uncontrollably. Have a peek yourself in the gallery below.

X-FI HomeTheater HD

It wasn’t that long ago that there wasn’t a way for Blu-ray fans to like the latest and greatest audio encoded with TrueHD and DTS-HD on their home theater Personal computers and now there are about to be two. That’s thanks to the fact that Azentech is going to begin shipping its X-FI HomeTheater HD sound card by the end of July — no word on the price. Unfortunately just like the ASUS Xonar before it, you’ll still need a separate video card for a complete solution. From there you’ll connect the X-FI to your HDTV via HDMI 1.3 to like your choice of bitstream or PCM lossless audio. You can even use analog outputs if you desire as well as other sources. We’re really happy to see some competition in this space, but still wonder how long before you’ll be able to just buy a video card that can do both.
